Usage Note 34892: The SAS® Add-In for Microsoft Office might prompt multiple times for credentials
You might be prompted for your SAS Metadata Server credentials when you use the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office, and then prompted again for your SAS server connection credentials when you try to access a data set or run a stored process.
This can happen when you have checked Save as the default for all SAS applications in the SAS Server Connections dialog box. When you enable this option, an XML file is created that holds cached credentials. These credentials are used for authentication on the SAS server. If the authentication domain in the cached file does not exactly match the match the authentication domain for the metadata server, you will be prompted for SAS server credentials.
To see the authentication domain that is being used for the SAS server connection, you can open the XML file in a text editor and locate the value for Authentication Domain Name.
For example, the file might be located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Application Data\SAS\Metadata Server\oms_serverinfo.xml
If the value in this file is <AuthenticationDomain Name="defaultauth"> but the correct domain name is DefaultAuth (mixed case), then you will be prompted multiple times. In this example, if you change the authentication domain name to DefaultAuth and then save the XML file, you should no longer be prompted for SAS server connection credentials.
